At Cello Health Insight, we recognise the Climate Emergency and the need to take action now. That is why we are proud to say that our offices in the UK are certified CarbonNeutral. Through a combination of internal reductions and the support of an emission reduction project in Indonesia, we have reduced our emissions to net zero in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol. As a result, we have achieved CarbonNeutral certification for our offices.
Lorna Kirman, Head of Sustainability said, “This is an important step and shows our commitment to a sustainable future and follows some important internal emission reductions such as our transfer to a 100% renewable energy supply from SSE.”
The carbon finance project Cello Health Insight are supporting is the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve. Based on the island of Borneo in Indonesia, this REDD+ project preserves carbon-dense tropical peat swamp by helping to halt deforestation of approximately 65,000 hectares of forest, which was originally destined for conversion to palm oil plantations. The project focuses on both community development – encompassing 2,000 households living within the project area – and biodiversity conservation, particularly the protection of the endangered Borneo Orang-utan. In order to deliver on its goals, the project actively engages local communities to improve food security, income opportunities, health care, and education – all with the support of carbon finance. To achieve CarbonNeutral office certification, Cello Health Insight UK has partnered with Natural Capital Partners, experts in the delivery of solutions for positive impact on carbon and renewable energy. Cello Health Insight has achieved net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for its offices in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol, the global standard for carbon neutral programmes. This involved an independent assessment of the CO2 emissions produced from our offices, including our business travel, power sources and office waste. This was followed by the purchase of carbon credits, which support a low carbon sustainable development project in Indonesia. The project is independently verified to assure the quality of the emission reduction, enabling Cello Health Insight to report a net zero carbon footprint for its offices in the UK.
“We are proud to be supporting such a fantastic project in Rimba Raya, Borneo where such vital work is protecting 65,000 hectares of rainforest, which was otherwise going to be turned into palm oil plantations. Delivering on 13 of the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals means we are contributing to the urgent action we need to take to combat the Climate Crisis. We will continue to work on reducing our emissions and take further steps on this critical topic,” said Lorna Kirman, Head of Sustainability.
