Two multinational pharmaceutical companies collaborating on publications programming in support of a novel opioid for acute and chronic pain

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

The clinical development programme explored multiple formulations across various indications, including acute post-operative pain, chronic pain (including OA, lower back, and DPN), and cancer pain. The team was tasked with developing a strategy and plan to disseminate evidence generated from preclinical and >20 clinical studies – many of which had complex trial designs – as well as from health economic evaluations and real-world data analyses. Key challenges were reconciling different organisational cultures, systems, and processes in order to gain alignment on the data dissemination strategy and plan and facilitate effective execution of the plan

THE APPROACH

Our teams provided comprehensive strategic and tactical programme support for the medical affairs and HEOR client teams across both alliance partners. We implemented cross-functional workshops with representation from each organisation to gain consensus on streamlined systems and processes, as well as alignment on the scientific communications platform, evidence dissemination strategies, and plans across formulations and indications. We then provided full-service publications tactical support for the entire programme, including abstracts, congress presentations, and manuscripts, as well as core educational slide content, and internal tools and resources to support and drive the programme


THE RESULTS

Detailed plans for dissemination of results from 27 trials and post hoc analysis
More than 450 congress presentations and manuscripts generated, including extensive original and ‘encore’ congress presentations for each study
Alignment of evidence dissemination activity to topics and audiences was tracked to ensure specific communications needs were being addressed
Our partnership was sustained over a 12-year period, from Phase 2 through post-launch of 3 formulations
